2011 Results...
Congratulations to South Perth for winning the 2011 Main Church Competition for the third year running, and also to Warnbro for taking out the 2011 Small Church Competition. You can view the final results here:

Let the count down begin...
With only two weeks to go, we hope you're getting as excited about the SYG weekend as we are.
Don't forget that our last meeting, involving all team coordinators and volunteers, is being held on Tuesday night 31 May. On this night, your team will recieve the official 2011 participant packs including fixture booklets and all volunteer material will be handed out. We will also update you the final details for the long weekend. If you can't make it, make sure you send a representative from your team along instead.
SYG Band...
Auditions/practice for the SYG Band is on this Thursday, 5th May and again on Thursday 19th May. We are still in need of singers and musicians, so if you're a registered participant to SYG and keen to take part please contact Michael Hunt for more detail.
Event update: How Ridiculous; SYG band and more...
It is official - the guys from How Ridiculous will be at the SYG opening ceremony representing Compassion. 9.30pm on Friday 3 June...don't miss it!
SYG Band auditions are happening on Thursday 5 and 19 May respectively. If you're keen to take part as a musician or singer, please register with our worship coordinator Michael Hunt prior to the first audition. Only SYG registered participants to take part in the band and they must keep the second session on the Saturday of SYG free for rehearsal.
Church participation: At this stage we look set to have 18 Churches registered to take part in SYG 2011. Which team are you cheering for?
Volunteers: We are still well short of our volunteer requirements to make State Youth Games run as smoothly as possible. If you're over 28 years of age and keen for long weekend down south with a great bunch of young adults, please register via our online site.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 19 April for all Perth based Coordinators - details to be issued via email.

Just a reminder that all SYG team registrations are due no later than 5pm, Tuesday 19 April. There will be a meeting held on this same night for all metro Churches to attend.
Getting your team information to us on time will assist in the fixturing process. Please contact Brittni if you have any concerns in meeting this deadline.

Adult Volunteers - we need you
If you're over 28 years of age (by a little or a lot) then why not come down and support our youth across WA by volunteering at one of the 33 sports on offer at State Youth Games. It's a lot of fun and you'll have the opportunity to meet a lot of great people over the June long weekend.
Volunteer for one session or five; it doesn't matter and every little bit counts.

First Church Coordinator meetings...
Details of the first Church Coordinator meetings for SYG 2011 are shown below. This year, the initial information meeting will take place in Perth, the South West and North of the State to give everyone an opportunity to hear an update first hand.
Not sure your Church will enter a team? That's ok, I encourage you to send along a representative to the meeting in your location to hear more about SYG and meet some of the Coordinators near you. Please contact me if you have any questions.

2011 theme and posters now out...
As part of the 25th anniversary celebrations, State Youth Games 2011 will be very aptly themed “Vintage”, drawing on the words from Psalm 78:1-4
“Listen, dear friends, to God’s truth, bend your ears to what I tell you. I’m chewing on the morsel of a proverb; I’ll let you in on the sweet old truths, Stories we heard from our fathers, counsel we learned at our mother’s knee. We’re not keeping this to ourselves, we’re passing it along to the next generation — God’s fame and fortune, the marvelous things he has done.”

SYG update...
2011 will see State Youth Games celebrate its 25th anniversary – what an achievement! As the event planning gets underway, we are currently seeking people interested in joining the organising team known as SYGOT. Specific opportunities within SYGOT have been outlined below:
TECHNOLOGY ADMINISTRATOR: We are looking for a volunteer with experience in the areas of information technology, web based programming, or database management. The role will involve taking part in the development of the State Youth Games event, with no commitment required over the event weekend.
MARKETING ADMINISTRATOR: Are you creative, with a flair for marketing? Then we need you! We’re looking for a creative thinker with fun and innovative ideas to share in the planning of SYG. This role does not require any commitment over the event weekend.
SPORTS ADMINISTRATOR: We are currently looking for a volunteer with a keen interest in sports to assist our Sport Coordinators both in the lead up to and during the State Youth Games weekend.
SYG CHAPLAIN: We are looking for a volunteer with a passion for youth to join the organising team with a view to ensuring the spirit of the games is upheld as our event continues to grow.

Congratulations...
Congratulations to the South Perth team who once again took out the title of overall Champion at the 2010 State Youth Games event, and also to Cornerstone (who hail from Busselton) in winning the small church competition.

The SYG weekend was filled with fun, friendship, fierce competition and fantastic weather – praise the Lord. Thank you to all our teams that took part and for the energy you displayed over the weekend, it was truly a sight to be seen. Here are just some of the comments received thus far:
“Thanks so much for a very well-run games. Everyone couldn't say enough good things about the weekend. The adult volunteers all said they enjoyed themselves a lot and want to come again next year. The players said that there was a very good spirit throughout the events”.
“Loved having the opening ceremony on Friday night…loved XerDance, please have it at Sportsfest”.
The theme of “Courage” carried across the weekend and it was fantastic to see the work put into each team’s individual theme and banners. South Perth was again a winner, taking out the 2010 banner competition with their theme “Stepping out, standing strong”. We also enjoyed hearing from our guest speaker Andrew ‘Fishtail’ Fisher about Courage both on and off the V8 supercar race track.
Thank you once again to our adult volunteers and sponsors who help to make this weekend possible. Also a special mention to the State Youth Games Organising Team (SYGOT) who have worked tirelessly over the last few months to bring it all together – well done!

We're here...
After more than 8 months of planning, the State Youth Games weekend is upon us. With 33 sports, 20 teams and more than 885 participants taking part in the weekend, we look forward to what will be an enjoyable time of fun and fellowship.
If you can't make it down to Bunbury this weekend, then why not tune your radio into 98.5 Sonshine FM, who will be broadcasting live from various venues over the weekend.
Don't forget, our opening ceremony will kick off on Friday night at 9.30pm...

Six new sports on offer in 2010...
At this year's State Youth Games we will have six new sports on offer including XerDance, Mastermind, Indoor Hockey, Handball, Kubb and Soft-crosse.
XerDance: If you love your Wii, gaming and DDR then you will love XerDance.This is brand new to Australia and it is only going to grow. By moving your feet to music and following arrows you are exercising and busting a move.

Get your thinking caps on...
State Youth Games 2010 will centre on the theme of "courage".
Once again, we will have our traditional banner and t-shirt competition at State Youth Games which will be judged by an independent panel. Registered teams are encouraged to design a banner and team shirt, based on the overall theme, to go in the running to win a prize.
Don’t forget to register your team colour and theme with the SYG Coordinator early to avoid two teams with the same colour shirts.
Special guest speaker
Want to know more about our special guest speaker, Andrew Fisher?
Andrew races for the Jesus Racing Team in the Yokohama V8 Ute Series and the Fujitsu V8 Supercar series, which are watched by a live audience of more than a million people each year, with another 30 million on the worldwide television broadcast.
His prime racing sponsor sees Andrew play a major role in the Bible Society's mass-media campaign Jesus. All about life. International Aid Organisation Compassion partners Andrew in his racing endeavours - taking him to India earlier this year to witness first-hand the amazing work they do with children in some of the poorest areas of the world.

Our New SYG Coordinator Brittni Baum 
It’s my privilege to introduce you to our new State Youth Games Coordinator Brittni Baum.
Brittni is currently employed by GRD Limited, an Australian engineering and development company, as Corporate Affairs Advisor and has significant experience in event management and coordination.
Outside of her corporate career, Brittni is married to Ashley and is actively involved in her Church, Kingsley Church of Christ. Currently she serves as the co-coordinator of the Kingsley State Youth Games team, is actively involved in a young adults home bible study group and, more recently, has helped develop and implement a new brand at Kingsley Church of Christ.
This is some of Brittni’s heart for SYG:
I have a passion for the State Youth Games and have had since my first experience of this event at the age of 16. I feel that, in addition to my event management experience, growing up in the small community in Collie and my familiarity with the Bunbury region will also aid in my ability to coordinate this event.
Just this year, I have taken the opportunity to become part of the SYG Organising Team. I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and now with a full understanding of what the role would entail, am looking forward to the opportunity of becoming even more involved in this fantastic outreach event.
I look forward to Brittni bringing her gifts and talents to the table and making her mark on this fantastic event. Can I encourage you to stand with and pray for Brittni in her new role?

South Perth Reigns at WA’s State Youth Games
State Youth Games 2009 was once again a huge success, with a great time had by all.
19 Churches from across WA ventured to Bunbury in the south west to take part in a weekend of sport, fun and fellowship. Within those 19 Churches, more than 880 competitors registered for the games, each competing in some of the 23 different sports on offer over the weekend.
Congratulations to South Perth Church of Christ, who took out the title of SYG Champion, and also Rivervale Church of Christ who won the Small Church competition.
The weekend kicked off on Saturday morning with our traditional, and entertaining, banner parade. Teams were asked to come up with a theme (banner and shirt design) as part of the overall SYG theme for 2009, SYGeneration. Congratulations to Kingsley Church of Christ who took out the banner competition with their theme ‘The Bling Within’ - For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).
Also during the opening ceremony Director of Youth Vision, Rod Thom, recognised the event sponsors, and Mike Adamson, Executive Minister COCWA, opened the games with a word of prayer.
Time was taken out from sport on Saturday evening for a special State Youth Games service. Subiaco Church of Christ did a fantastic job in leading the evening worship, and we were blessed to have visiting speaker Tim Hawkins from New South Wales share with us.
It was during this service that Youth Vision took the opportunity to thank outgoing SYG Coordinator Brendon Hunt for his ministry at State Youth Games over the last four years. Well done Brendon!
A big thank you goes out to the 110 adult volunteers who gave of their time to coordinate, umpire and score the various sporting events over the weekend. The event just would not happen without these people.
All in all, State Youth Games 09 was a great weekend. We saw a number of people commit to a relationship with Jesus, either for the first time or making a recommitment, as a result of this outreach ministry and we look forward to seeing the event continue to flourish in years to come.
